GLASGOW GENERAL INFORMATION


Information Desk

The Airport Information Desk is on the first floor of the terminal building adjacent
to the domestic arrival/departures pier. Normal opening hours are 0615 hours till
2245 hours but during the peak summer period (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) it
is staffed 24 hours a day. If for any reason it is closed and you need help please
contact any uniformed member of staff or dial 100 on the Helpline telephone situated
on the Information Desk. Greater Glasgow Tourist Board have a Tourist Information
desk on the International Arrivals Concourse on the ground floor. Their staff will
provide you with information on activities, events, places of interest, and accom-
modation in the Glasgow and Paisley areas. Opening hours are 0800 till 2000 hours.


Driving To The Airport

The M8 Motorway via Junction 28 gives easy access to and from the terminal.
The airport is about 20 minutes from Glasgow City Center by car and two minutes
from Paisley, the nearest town. You can drop off passengers outside the terminal
building, but if you want to see them off please use one of the three airport car parks.

Currency Exchange

Thomas Cook and Travelex each have three units in the terminal. Their main units
are located at first floor level.
They offer:
A guaranteed 500 worth of at least 10 major currencies.
Currency note exchange rates matched to one of the four main UK clearing banks,
with minimum commission charges to match or beat them.
UK Cheques cashed free (supported by a valid cheque guarantee card). Sterling
Travellers Cheques and Eurocheques cashed free.
Pre-ordering of currencies of travellers cheques is generally unnecessary. However,
if you require to have your travel money ready for immediate collection at the
airport or simply wish to find out more about the bureau services please contact
Thomas Cook on 0141 840 2299 or Travelex on 0141 887 2068.
For departing international passengers a VAT refund service is available in the
International Departures Lounge, providing that the appropriate documentation
has been fully completed and authorised by HM Customs & Excise.
Within the Thomas Cook main bureau there is an automatic teller machine service
which will accept cash cards issued by Clydesdale and Barclays banks. There is also
a Post Office facility which operates Monday to Saturday 0900 - 1730.

Trolleys:

Trolleys are available free of charge throughout the terminal and car parks. If you
need help, please contact a uniformed member of staff.


Left Luggage

A left luggage facility is available outside the international arrivals area.
Opening hours are:
Summer (May to October) 24 hours daily
Winter (November to April) 0600-2300

Luggage may be subject to security check.


Lost Property

Lost property can be collected or deposited at the Airport Information Desk 06.15
- 22.45 hours daily. Outside these hours contact 0141 848 4740.
If you leave anything on the aircraft you should contact your airline or their handling
agent as soon as possible.
For arriving passengers if you cannot find your luggage in the baggage reclaim hall
please speak to your airline or their handling agent as soon as possible.


Car Hire:

Avis, Hertz, Eurodollar, Europcar and Alamo have desks located in a building directly
outside the UK arrivals concourse and in the International arrivals concourse.
The following off airport car hire operators can be contacted via a direct dial
telephone located in the UK arrivals area on the ground floor of the terminal building.
A list of telephone numbers is displayed at the telephone. Arnold Clark, Budget,
British Car Rental, Kenning, Melville, Woods.


Public Telephones:

British Telecom and New World public telephones are located at various points
throughout the terminal building.
There are also phone/fax machines available.
A special Minicom telephone situated on the first floor of the terminal building next
to John Menzies is available for people with hearing difficulties.
Phone cards can be bought at the Bookstore, Post Office/ Bureau de Change on the
first floor.


Reclaiming VAT

Travellers
Non-EEC resident outside the UK may reclaim VAT on certain goods purchased
in the UK, and included in the Retail Export Scheme (see H. M. Customs & Excise
leaflet 704 Traveller's Guide to the Retail Export Scheme). The store where you
made your purchases must provide you with H. M. Customs & Excise form VAT
407 or Modified Invoice and Post Paid Envelope (Customs do not have a supply of
these forms).

1) Goods in hold baggage
Passengers must present VAT refund forms, fully completed and signed together
with post paid envelope at the baggage check-in desk. Customs reserve the right to
examine your hold baggage to confirm that the goods have been packed.
2) Goods in hand baggage
Passengers must present VAT refund forms fully completed and signed together
with post paid envelope at the Customs desk in the International Departures Lounge.
Customs reserve the right to examine your hand baggage to confirm that the goods
have been packed.
After completion and authorisation of these forms a refund is available at the Bureau
de Change in the International Departures Lounge.


Babycare

There are five babycare rooms available throughout the terminal building. Two are
situated in the main concourse area, one in the International Departures Lounge, one
in the International Pier and one in International Baggage Reclaim.In addition many
toilets have wall mounted baby changing units.


Medical Assistance

Medical assistance is available in the terminal building by contacting the Airport
Information Desk on 4552 or the Airport Duty Manager on 4510.


Hotels

There are two hotels near the airport terminal building:
the Forte Crest 0141 887 1212 and the Travel Inn near the airport entry / exit road
on Caledonia Way East Res 01582 414341.
