Emulsion Films is proud to present this page in recognition of the tremendous work and services performed by the Officers, Soldiers, and Friends of The Salvation Army world-wide.

The Salvation Army name is familar to nearly all of us, yet it is surprising to find out how little the average person really knows about all the services they provide. As time is available we at Emulsion Films will expand this page to present as complete a picture as we can.

THE BEGINNINGS

In the 1850's a Methodist Minister by the name of William Booth saw a great need to help the very poor of London, England. Getting little of no support from his denomination, he set out on his own to make a difference. He became the founder of what was to become the Salvation Army. Over the years The Army has spread around the world, but never lost sight of its founding purpose. The Salvation Army believes that it exists to demonstrate a "Christian Love" to anyone in need no matter who they are, where they are, or what their beliefs are. If you need help, The Army is there for you.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

Today, the programs and services are almost too numerous to mention. Simply, they offer help and service for the very young to the very old. They operate children's homes, senior care facilities, youth centers, adult rehabilitation centers, welfare offices, food and housing assistance, youth camps, "meals on wheels" type programs, visitation to shut-ins, community centers and day care, educational training, disaster services, etc.,etc. You get the idea. Whenever there's a disaster, The Army is there. Wherever there's a need The Army tries to be there to help.

The Christmas bell ringing, food, clothing, monitary, and miscellaneous donations all go to support the programs and services provided by the Salvation Army. Careful use of funds was recently demonstrated by The Redwood City, California Corps where 91% of the funds received during the 1995-1996 fiscal year were distributed to those in need, while only 9% represented overhead. This ratio is not that different from The Army's national and international averages.

The Army's moto "With Heart To God and Hand To Man" really sums if up. The Army is just following its "Calling".
